Different models can interpret the same question differently. Compare the answers and choose what works for you.

Which model?

Choose by the job, not by the name.

Customer chat and FAQs
Speed and low cost matter most. Start with the cheapest model that answers correctly, then test it with the real questions your customers ask.
Sinhala and Tamil
Language quality varies a lot between models. Ask the same question in your customers’ language and have a native speaker judge the answers. Price tells you very little here.
Writing and marketing
Tone is personal. Run the same brief through three models, compare them side by side and pick the voice that sounds like your brand.
Coding and hard problems
Cheaper models can miss details on complex work. Look for the Reasoning tag, and move up to a stronger model when the answers fall short.
Reading images or using your systems
Check the tags on each model. Vision means it can read images, and Tools means it can call functions in your own software.
A simple rule to start with
Start cheap and move up only when the answers aren’t good enough. Through a gateway, switching model is one word in your code, so you never get stuck with your first choice.

What is Roar AI?
Infrastructure for building with AI. One API key reaches 200+ models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and more, alongside app hosting and databases. It runs in regions including Colombo, and you pay as you go on one monthly bill. See Roar AI in Sri Lanka.
What is a model provider?
A company that builds or serves AI models, such as OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini). Going directly usually means a separate account, key and bill for each one.
What is an AI API?
It lets an app send a question to an AI model and receive an answer. This is how a model ends up inside your website, your app or your WhatsApp bot.
What is an AI gateway?
A single connection between your app and many providers. You use one key and one bill, set spending caps, and switch models freely. On Roar AI, if a provider drops, requests move to a healthy route for the same model.
How would I use this in my own app?
Only the base URL and the key change. The gateway speaks the OpenAI API, so code written for an OpenAI SDK keeps working. Read the docs.
import OpenAI from 'openai';

const client = new OpenAI({
  baseURL: 'https://api.roar-ai.com/v1',
  apiKey: process.env.ROAR_API_KEY
});

const reply = await client.chat.completions.create({
  model: 'claude-haiku-5-5', // change this one word to switch model
  messages: [{ role: 'user', content: 'Hello!' }]
});
Why use different models?
Models are built and trained differently, so their answers, speed and strengths can vary. The best one depends on the job, which is what the Model Arena lets you see for yourself.
What are tokens?
Tokens are small pieces of text. Models count the text they read and write in tokens, and that count is what you pay for.
Why do costs vary?
Each model has its own rate for input and output tokens, and more text usually costs more. See Roar AI pricing.
How does the chatbot use a knowledge base?
The app sends the shop’s details with the conversation, giving the model context for its answer. Swap in your own menu, prices and policies and you have a chatbot for your business.
Why are there limits on this demo?
This is a free demo running on limited credits, so everyone gets a set number of tries a day, with short prompts and short answers. It offers the more affordable models; the full catalogue has 200+, including the strongest frontier models. Please don’t enter personal or private information, because prompts are sent to the model providers.
